About the Wonderland Traverse:
The Wonderland of Rocks is the most rugged part of Joshua Tree National Park located north of Hidden Valley. There are no trails here and you’ll have to hike up and over more than in a straight line. Class three scrambling and some good drop-offs will keep your senses heightened so bring good shoes and a great attitude because this is a real full body workout. Massive boulder piles, interesting desert plants, and the occasional natural spring to cool your heels in the shade are just the tip of the iceberg on this one. We begin our hike near Wall Street Mill and finish in Rattlesnake Canyon. If you have time to celebrate (and if they are open), we’ll head to Pioneertown for some great food and live entertainment in the tradition of country meets rock and roll.
The world famous Joshua Tree National Park is a relaxing 45 minute drive from downtown Palm Springs. There are currently 794,000 acres in the park for you to explore and elevations range from a low of 536 feet to a high of 5,814 feet. Temperatures drop in the evenings, so overnight camping trips can prove to be a great option for visitors wanting to escape the heat and bustle of Los Angeles. The most popular time of the year to visit is fall, winter, and spring… but warm summer nights reveal amazing starry skies and dramatic moon lit night hikes – there is always something new to discover in Joshua Tree.
